Starting off March’s trending gear is the Böker Plus Gnome: a compact and classy neck knife that, even at just 4" long overall, delivers plenty of utility and performance for EDC. The contoured handles provide a comfortable two-finger grip, thanks to the large finger choil that helps you control the knife while in use. The scales themselves are shaped from Micarta combined with red fiber inner layers for a bit of contrast and style. The Gnome’s 2" satin-finished sheepsfoot-style blade is useful for light cutting and slicing tasks, and the 440C stainless steel it’s ground gives it high resistance to wear and corrosion—perfect for a knife that you’ll likely be having on you at all times. The included Kydex sheath protects the blade and lets you loop in cord to make this a neck knife or to mount it on your gear. At 2 ounces, the Böker Plus Gnome is a tiny companion you wouldn’t mind taking along for those times that you need a small but reliable edge on hand.
Despite carrying the Victorinox name, this uncommon tool at ninth place comes in neither Alox nor Cellidor scales, but instead packs 4 survival-oriented functions into a flat, compact package. The tool comes with a compass, ruler (3.15“ / 8 cm), magnifying glass, and a thermometer, and comes in a design you can slip flush into a pocket or compact survival kit. It’s a no-frills way to add essential functionality to your outdoors EDC.
With a 42mm case showing off its large vintage, dive-watch inspired dial, the Hull Automatic makes an eye-catching statement, especially at night when the Super LumiNova-coated pips and hands let loose with their lume. During the day, a deep brown sunburst dial that matches its strap lets the Hull give a natural touch to any outfit. And last but not least, a Japanese caliber TMI NH35 automatic movement secured in the Hull’s 100 meter-resistant case with a date complication and power reserve of 41 hours takes care of its beating heart.
Clean lines, great cutting performance, and a deep pocket carry make the Gerber Pocket Square a great gentleman’s carry. This version features machined aluminum scales that adorn the 3.9" long handle and give it durability and grip. The blade sits flush with the handle when closed, and is deployed with the textured ambidextrous thumb lifts. The blade’s 3" length and drop-point shape lets it handle common EDC cutting and slicing tasks. It’s held securely in place during use by a liner lock mechanism, which like the thumb lift, integrates seamlessly with the streamlined design of the knife. The pocket clip is reversible for left or right hand carry, and offers an extra-deep pocket profile. This makes for for a deep and discreet carry right at home in a work or formal setting.
The CRKT CEO stands out with its letter opener-esque slim and narrow silhouette which sits discreetly in your pocket thanks to its tip-down, ultra deep-carry clip. It deploys manually via thumb studs on smooth IKBS bearings, locking into a liner. The 3.1" 8Cr13MoV, flat ground, plain edge blade gives you plenty of cutting edge to work with, coming to a narrow tip for precision work. Its glass reinforced nylon handles provide a solid, ergonomic grip and keeps weight down to just over 2 ounces total. It’s an excellent EDC in and out of the office, and sits at last month’s sixth slot.
When talking about all-time classic Spyderco knives (not to mention all-time great knives in general), it’s hard to avoid talking about the Para Military 2. With solid features like a CPM S30V blade with trademark thumbhole and full-grip G10 handles paired with excellent balance, ergonomics and security thanks to its patented Compression Lock, there’s a reason it’s become an EDC staple. The black scales and blacked-out drop point blade gives a nod to its tactical heritage while allowing it to be the centerpiece of any stealthy EDC.
The Kershaw Showtime was designed—as its name suggests—for those times when you’re trying to look your sharpest. Its 3" long drop point blade keeps it legal in most places (always check your local laws) and deploys quickly thanks to the integrated flipper tab and the spring-assisted opening of Kershaw’s Speedsafe system. The blade’s 8Cr13MoV steel is done up in a combination of satin and black for a contrasting theme that’s carried throughout the design, and it’s more than capable of handling your daily EDC cutting and slicing tasks. Silver hardware and standoffs contrast with the black stainless steel handle to keep the theme going, and provide an easy-to-clean flow-through design. A hex nut styled pivot adds more visual flair, while a black deep carry clip keeps it discreet in the pocket. All that style in a easily pocketable 3.67 ounces.
In the third slot for march is the Grim Workshop Jordan Jonas Signature Card, featuring nine different outdoor and survival-centric functions that you can easily pack it in your wallet, or compact survival tin. This hardened stainless steel survival card features an arrowhead tip that you can use as a spike to enhance a deadfall trap for catching small game, which you can make with the included Paiute trigger and trap assembly. Two small hook-and-lure combos and four slightly larger hooks ensure you’re stocked for fishing, and a net weaving shuttle lets you sew and mend your net in a pinch. It holds an awl for leatherworking and a sewing needle for some quick repairs, and also includes the small but useful Sharpener Card for light field maintenance of your tools and blades.
Equipped with some of the finest materials around on its handles and blade, the Justin Lundquist-designed Kizer Feist is an elegant expression of utility-driven simplicity at a great value. It definitely does more with less: it’s a compact knife at only 3.625” when closed with a blade length of 2.875”. That sub-3” blade not only helps pass even the more stringent local knife restrictions, but it also cuts like a bigger knife thanks to its sharp edge spanning the entirety of its modified wharncliffe geometry. The Feist also uses an excellent blade steel in CPM-S35VN, commonly found in high-end knives for its toughness, sharpness, and edge retention. As another welcome addition to a smaller knife, the Feist locks with a frame lock between its matte 6AL4V titanium handles. The backspacer and included pocket clip are also made in matching titanium to bring a clean aesthetic overall backed by durability and light weight.
Topping the March charts is one of the latest in Leatherman’s popular new FREE series. The FREE T4 brings 12 functions to bear in a 3.6“, 4.3 oz package.
